For 2013 I decided to commit myself to another weekly project which I will call background noise.
In this case I'm referring to the background noise in my mind in reference to making art. The photo you see is the interior of my studio closet where I keep all my supplies. I am certainly not short of supplies. Besides fabrics I also have lots of paints, pens, wool felt, yarns and other things that I have accumulated for my interest in fiberart. In that closet are also containers which have the beginnings of projects which I have never finished, scraps of handmade painted or dyed fabric, and just scraps in general of many fabrics, yarns, and other things. My mission, should I choose to accept it, will be to create a 4 1/2 inch square piece of fiberart each week which I will post about on Wednesday. My goal is to get some of my ideas out of my mind, my background noise, and place them into a small sample of fiber art, and in the process using up some of my many supplies. I decided that for these blocks I must use something I already have.
I decided on the 4 1/2 inch size because four divides evenly into 52 weeks equaling 13. In the end I hope to be able to create a wall panel of these blocks composed of 13 rows of four blocks each. That will be my memory piece for the year 2013.
Another advantage of this project will be it will require me to be creative on a regular basis even though I know at times it maybe difficult to force myself to do so. But then I always have my notebooks with ideas that I look through now and then which may serve to be very useful to inspire me on a weekly basis.
Perhaps this may inspire some of you to do the same thing or something similar.
So tomorrow will be my first posting of my first block for this year-long project.
