I've seen some interesting things in the past few days, so that will be the topic of my list of ten. I visited Millennium Park in downtown Chicago yesterday, and this photo is of the glass towers with projected images on the falling water cascading down the towers is one or the highlights. I noticed today as I went about my chores in town that I was paying more attention to my surroundings........something I don't often do because I'm 'so busy' moving from chore to chore. I'm trying to slow down....and see what attracts my eye. Here goes:
The steeple of our county courthouse as I saw it from the library stairs, towering over the city.
An elderly lady packing selected books into a lime green tote bag.
The coarse thick grey hair of one of the ladies working in the library.
Children stamping their feet in the water by those glass towers in the photo above, just having plain old fashioned fun without batteries.
Three young boys walking together on the street........looking for something to do. My maternal mind says time for school.
A woman guiding a bicycle across the street........you have to wonder.....is something wrong with the bike or her.....or neither. Maybe she's just bringing it back from somewhere.
A man sweeping his sidewalk with a bright red broom, and stopping for a moment to lean on the broom and gaze off into the distance. thoughtful or tired?
Workmen demolishing old sidewalk concrete, wearing old tees and dirty jeans.
Marathon runners in a pack along Lake Shore Drive in Chicago, breathing hard and sweating yet keeping on moving forward.
Tall buildings in downtown Chicago surrounding the Millenium Park, as if to protect it and all the people enjoying this public space, all the while city traffic buzzing by and people walking everywhere.
I think there is always a lot of visual stimulation in our worlds that we miss because we're busy thinking something else, or just plain have tunnel vision. I think creative people like myself can benefit from paying closer attention to what is in their line of sight.......see something today that you normally don't give a second glance. It may be the inspiration for your next work of art in any medium. me? I'm still attracted to that lime green tote bag.
